Hi It is very very difficult when you start to realise the problems your child has. First thing - it is not your fault. Children do not develop aspergers or autism from being spoilt or not played with enough. You can spend a lot of time feeling guilty - that is natural - but try to realise that there is nothing you could have done differently. My oldest son is "normal" , my second son ( aged 6 ) is autistic, my baby ( 9 months )is developing normally but i have treated thenm all the same. Try and contact the National Autistic society for information and find out where your local support branch meets. You can meet local parents and they have useful talks and info of support services in your area . If you think school is going to be tough write to your Local Education Authority NOW and tell them you want your child assessed for special educational needs. If they tell you they can't or try to persuade you that she is not eligable over the phone THEY ARE LYING. If you write and request they are legally obliged to review her .You do not need a diagnosis before you can do this. Your daughter will be assessed and you can contribute saying what you think is difficult for her etc. She may be able to qualify for a learning support teacher or something else that will help her . But do it now and when you apply for a SEN ask for details of the Authorities parents support organisation. Each Educational authority has one and they are parents who can help you deal with the statement process. I would also recommend that you look at the website for allergy induced autism at www.autismmedical.com The web is a mine of information - join groups and find other parents they are a great resource . Good luck to you and your daughter . Regards Deborah
