Hi Janet , so sorry you will have had a late night ! I do sympathise ! My Charlie sometimes displays compulsions like this( taking several videos around with him at the moment) ! If it were me ...... Get all his jigsaws and keep them stored in a cupboard with a padlock on that only you know where the key is . Don't let him open the cupboard and choose one after a certain time each evening - whatever time is reasonable. Have a big clock or note or whatever on the door so that he knows the rule and NEVER give in. He will protest HUGELY the first time you say no but once he realises that that is the rule he will accept it. If he accepts "no jigsaws - its too late" have a secret reward ready for him and praise him hugely - make it something that is a real treat and a favourite ( a game or a comic or a food treat). And praise him every time he accepts the rule. It is just behavioural treatment and it should work as long as you DO NOT give in EVER and relax the rule and as long as you realise that the first few times he will be really angry and upset ! Regards Deborah My Charlie is really struggling because I let him carry his videos around the house but not outside. It is hard for him to put them down but he know it is just not allowed and he accepts it. Every time he puts the videos on the shelf by the front door as we leave he gets praise and/or a reward so he know he has been good and he gets compensated. Good luck !
