      Hi,

I’m a student at the University of Portland in the United States. My university will be sending me to England for a week in August to learn more about Autism. I am a nursing and business major who has expereince working with Autistic individuals. I’m hoping to see what kind of resources and programs are available as well as see how healthcare is different. I’ve contacted the National Autistic Soceity and a couple other organizations and have had no luck in finding someone who’d be willing to meet with me for lunch.

I joined this website in hopes to make some contact with people in the field or to be referred to individuals you think might be intrested in meeting with me. I would love to talk to parents, individuals affected by autism, teachers, anyone! I would also be intrested in volunteering in an event or attending a support group if appropriate. Please let me know if you can help, I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you kindly!

Hi, If you haven’t already done so, I would suggest you contact Sunfield (http://www.sunfield.org.uk/). They are a large residential school in the West Midlands and, unlike most schools, will not all be on holiday in August. They have onsite health as well as teaching staff and I feel would offer an interesting placement and opportunity to see ‘good practise’ if they can accomodate you.
Best of luck with your studies and hope you have an interesting visit.
      Dave.
